2001 Grant Recipients
LANDFALL FOUNDATION AWARDS 37 GRANTS TOTALING $60,458
WILMINGTON, NC - The Landfall Foundation today presented checks to 37 agencies to fund projects in the greater Wilmington area totaling $60,458. In its fifth year of making grants, the Foundation was able to substantially exceed the $35,016 made in grants to 22 projects in 2000.
The charitable foundation was formed in 1996 to establish a community support effort specifically originating from the residents of Landfall. It allocates funds targeted to health and welfare activities, education, and the arts and gives priority to organizations with low administrative overhead and high volunteer participation.
Those funded and their projects are as follows:
Health and Welfare Activities--$22,739
- Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity--Materials for the Habitat home being built through donations and volunteer efforts of Landfall residents--$1500
- Domestic Violence Shelter and Services--Furnishings for an outdoor recreation/relaxation area for mothers and their children--$2000
- Good Shepherd Ministries of Wilmington--Refrigerators for a transitional living facility for homeless veterans--$2000
- Coastal Adult Day Care Center--Exercise equipment for therapeutic physical fitness for the frail elderly--$1500
- New Hanover County Partnership for Children--Salary assistance for a bilingual child care provider and supplies for the Los Chiquitos program-- $1980
- The Parenting Place of the Exchange Clubs--Additional free parenting education classes to help prevent child abuse--$1819
