LANDFALL FOUNDATION AWARDS 59 GRANTS TOTALING $166,675

WILMINGTON, NC - The Landfall Foundation today (Nov. 1, 2005) presented checks to 59 agencies to fund projects in the greater Wilmington area totaling $166,675. In its ninth year of making grants, the foundation was able to substantially exceed the $131,827 made in grants to 47 projects in 2004.

In addition to the grants presented, the foundation recognized recipients of the 2005 class of Landfall Foundation Scholars attending UNC Wilmington, Cape Fear Community College, and Brunswick Community College. Established in 2004, the Landfall Foundation has awarded 22 scholarships in 2005 in the amount of $12,073 with four additional scholarships in the amount of $2,240 pending successful completion of courses. Scholarships are awarded to students who work at least 10 hours a week at the Country Club of Landfall or the Landfall Council of Associations. The scholarships provide half the cost of tuition and fees each semester.

The charitable foundation was formed in 1996 to establish a community support effort specifically originating from the residents of Landfall. It allocates funds targeted to health and welfare activities, education, and the arts in Brunswick, Pender, and New Hanover counties and gives priority to organizations with low administrative overhead and high volunteer participation. The 2005 Grants Committee was chaired by Landfall residents Judith E. Malman and Loretta Meyers.
