2006 Grant Recipients
LANDFALL FOUNDATION AWARDS 61 GRANTS TOTALING $187,932
WILMINGTON, NC - The Landfall Foundation today (Nov. 1, 2006) presented checks to 61 agencies to fund projects in the greater Wilmington area totaling $187,932. In its 10th year of making grants, the foundation was able to substantially exceed the $166,675 made in grants to 59 projects in 2005.
In addition to the grants being presented, the Landfall Foundation Scholarship program has awarded $44,443 in scholarships in 2006 to 52 students. In 2005 $12,000 was distributed to 23 students. Recipients are students who work at least 10 hours a week at the Country Club of Landfall or the Landfall Council of Associations. The scholarships provide full cost of tuition and fees at community colleges and three-quarters of tuition and fees at UNCW each semester pending successful completion of courses. The foundation also funds continuing education or training for Landfall employees.
The charitable foundation was formed in 1996 to establish a community support effort specifically originating from the residents of Landfall. It allocates funds targeted to health and welfare activities, education, and the arts in Brunswick, Pender, and New Hanover counties and gives priority to organizations that serve the greatest needs in the community for the largest number of people and where the grant can make the greatest impact. The 2006 Grants Committee was chaired by Landfall residents Loretta Meyers and Curtis Sewell.
