First Fruit Ministries

First Fruit Ministries was awarded $15,000 to perform roof repairs and install a gutter system on its 80,000 sf building.

First Fruit Ministries began in 1998 as a street outreach to the homeless as well as to women and girls caught in the commercial sex industry. FFM teams now visit drug houses, wooded encampments, motels and sidewalks to share food and build relationships with the goal of persuading these individuals to accept other services. They operate a food pantry and housing to at least 30 individuals or families as well as a homeless day shelter in its building.

Eden Village

Eden Village was awarded $30,000 to purchase and install a temperature controlled, walk-in refrigerator for its community center.

Eden Village, now under construction, is a tiny home community providing 31 older single chronically homeless adults with affordable long term housing in a supportive community. Each tiny home will be approximately 400 sf with a combined kitchen/living area, bedroom and bathroom. There will also be a dining facility, laundry and community center for social activities and skills training. A large community garden where residents will be encouraged to grow their own food is also planned where residents can safely store fresh produce in the walk in refrigerator.

A Safe Place

A Safe Place was awarded $30,000 to help renovate and expand its residential options on its newly purchased 11-acre property. Upgrades include the installation of exterior lighting and a security system, carpeting and furnishings along with improved parking and driveway spaces.

A Safe Place is an empowerment organization focused on prevention, advocacy and restoration to assist victims of commercial sexual exploitation through community partnerships. Its services include a 2/47 hotline, community outreach, emergency shelter, supportive housing and training programs.

Oak Island Senior Center

The Oak Island Senior Center was awarded $3600 to repair and replace the siding of its building, which was damaged by recent storms.
